Apple has officially announced that Apple Pay is now available in the Philippines, enabling a fast, secure, and touchless way for local consumers to pay using their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. This milestone aligns with the country’s ongoing shift toward a cashless economy, joining over 90 regions worldwide where the digital wallet is already integrated into daily transactions.
The initial rollout features support from major financial institutions, including UnionBank, Metrobank, China Bank, and GoTyme Bank. Eligible Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cardholders can easily digitize their cards by opening the native Apple Wallet app and following the quick setup prompts.
| SUPPORTED LAUNCH PARTNERS | |
|---|---|
| UnionBank | Visa & Mastercard (Credit/Debit) |
| Metrobank | Visa & Mastercard (Credit/Debit) |
| China Bank | Visa & Mastercard (Credit/Debit) |
| GoTyme Bank | Visa (Debit) |
Transactions rely on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing users to make tap-to-pay purchases anywhere contactless payments are accepted—including major retailers like Ayala Malls, Rustan’s, Jollibee, and Power Mac Center. Security remains paramount; card details are never stored on device hardware or Apple servers, utilizing tokenization and biometric authentication via Face ID or Touch ID instead. Additional issuing banks are expected to join the network in upcoming phases.
