Meta announces new Instagram brand identity

Instagram has unveiled an evolved brand identity designed to put community self-expression and creativity at the forefront. Grounded in a refreshed design system, the update marks a thoughtful modernization of the platform’s iconic visual identity.

At the center of the redesign is a updated script wordmark. While remaining recognizable, the lettering has been refined to be bolder, simpler, and more expressive, capturing the personal touch of individual voice. According to Instagram’s design team, honoring the original script was essential because hand-crafted lettering reflects the organic individuality of its users.

Beyond the logo, the broader brand system introduces updated typography, including a refreshed Instagram Sans, a new handwritten typeface named Instagram Pen, and a companion font called Instagram Mono. The iconic vibrant gradient remains a core element, but it is now applied with more restraint across motion and UI layouts. This shift provides a cleaner backdrop, letting user photos, videos, and creative works take center stage.

Google Unveils the Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Tensor G6, Gearless Hinge, and IP68 Durability

Google unveiled the Pixel 11 Pro Fold alongside the rest of the Pixel 11 lineup at its annual ‘Made by Google’ event on August 12, 2026. Marking Google’s fourth-generation foldable, the device introduces a thinner, lighter, and vastly more durable design powered by the 2nm Tensor G6 chipset. Key hardware upgrades include a gearless hinge, an IP68 rating, and an improved glass-composite back.

Xiaomi officially announced Xiaomi “SkyNomad” Intelligent SUV Series

Xiaomi EV is officially expanding its horizons. Today, the tech-giant-turned-automaker announced its second major product line: the Xiaomi SkyNomad.

While the celebrated Xiaomi SU7 and upcoming YU7 series were engineered as “driver’s cars” built for performance, the SkyNomad takes a completely different path. It is positioned as an “intelligent, reconfigurable, large-space SUV” designed to put the passengers first.

The landscape of China’s EV market has evolved rapidly. While massive three-row SUVs and ultra-plush seating have become industry standards, Xiaomi recognized a shift in what buyers actually care about: emotional ease and utility.

Development for SkyNomad began in early 2023 with a singular, human-centric goal: build a cabin around how people actually feel and live inside it.

The centerpiece of the SkyNomad is its adaptability, powered by Xiaomi’s brand-new Kunlun Architecture.

Rather than just offering a static, large cabin, the SkyNomad is designed to transform on demand. Key features include:

  • Ultra-Flexible Layouts: A completely flat floor coupled with a long-track seating system allows the interior to adapt seamlessly.
  • Dynamic Modes: The cabin transitions effortlessly from standard driving and passenger modes to specialized parked modes—instantly turning the SUV into a quiet workspace, a relaxing lounge, or an interactive family play area.
  • The Tech Trifecta: To make this fluid physical transformation work, Xiaomi integrated advanced AI, its massive smart-device ecosystem, and its proprietary smart manufacturing capabilities.

Interior

“Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you.”
— Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi

After 3.5 years of development, the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series is launching soon in China. Stay tuned for official pricing, specs, and interior reveals in the coming weeks.

Apple Releases Public Betas for iOS 27, macOS 27, and More

Apple has officially released the first public betas for its next-generation software suite, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and watchOS 27. Following several weeks of developer-only testing, anyone enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program can now test-drive these major upgrades before their final release this fall.

What’s New: Upgraded AI and Performance

The star of this year’s release cycle is a massive overhaul of Siri and Apple Intelligence. Rebuilt around advanced AI, Apple’s virtual assistant now features deep onscreen awareness, conversational memory, and the ability to draw from your personal context to execute complex commands. Under the hood, iOS 27 also introduces massive performance optimizations, boosting app launch speeds by up to 30%.

On the desktop side, macOS 27 Golden Gate officially drops Intel support to optimize exclusively for Apple silicon. It refines the “Liquid Glass” aesthetic with new transparency controls and introduces a dedicated Siri app alongside system-wide HDR. Meanwhile, watchOS 27 brings sleek UI tweaks and a custom equalizer for connected AirPods.

How to Install (And Why You Might Want to Wait)

While these initial builds are surprisingly stable, backing up your data is highly recommended before upgrading any daily-use devices.

To install the beta:

  1. Enroll your Apple ID in the Apple Beta Software Program.
  2. On your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  3. Tap Beta Updates and select the “Public Beta” for your device.

Keep in mind that as early beta releases, you should expect to encounter bugs, rapid battery drain, and minor performance hiccups. Apple encourages users to report these issues through the built-in Feedback app to help refine the software before launch. If you prefer a smoother experience, it is highly recommended to hold off until the second or third public beta release, when the most disruptive bugs have been ironed out.

Sony to close the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS Vita

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the final closure of the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS Vita, officially bringing an end to digital commerce for the legacy platforms. The Sony Playstation 3 was release in November 2006, while PS Vita in December 2011.

The storefront will close first on the PS3 in August 2026 across Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, followed by additional Latin American and Middle Eastern markets later in the year. The final, global shutdown of the digital marketplace for both the PS3 and PS Vita will take place in July 2027.

Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide. The price of XBOX consoles will increase by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. We will also be sunsetting our 2 TB model.

Here the new official US pricing tier for Xbox;

  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $499.99 (Up $100 from $399.99)
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $599.99 (Up $150 from $449.99)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB Digital): $749.99 (Up $150 from $599.99)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB with Disc Drive): $799.99 (Up $150 from $649.99)
  • Xbox Series X (2TB): Discontinued

Microsoft attributed the hikes to an ongoing global “components crisis,” specifically highlighting that the market costs for console storage and memory (DRAM and NAND) have spiked by over 2.5x, largely driven by supply strains from the massive growth in AI data center infrastructure.

Friendster is making a Comeback!?

The OG social media network is making a comeback after a Philadelphia-based programmer Mike Carson acquired the domain and trademarks through Friendster Labs for approximately $30,000, Carson reimagined the pioneer social network as a private, algorithm-free space.

Friendster App Store Screenshot

From the App store;

Friendster is a social network for connecting with people you actually know in real life.

Add friends only by tapping phones in person, then share posts and messages inside a real-life friend network — not a follower graph.

Why Friendster:
• Real-life friends (no follower counts, no “suggested strangers”)
• No ads
– No algorithmic feed manipulation
Core features:
• In-person friend linking (tap-to-connect)
• Feed for your friend graph
• 1:1 and group messages
• Notifications for messages and interactions

It is currently available for iPhone, Ipad and Mac users only.

Here’s what Mike Carson said on his medium article;

There is only one friendster.com domain name in the world, and I found the idea of owning it very fun and interesting. Building a social network on Friendster seemed like it would be so much fun.

So we worked out a deal where I gave him $20k in Bitcoin and a domain that was making about $9k/year in ad revenue, and he gave me the domain friendster.com. Now I was the owner of the domain name friendster.com.
