Apple Announces the New 24-inch iMac powered by the M6 chip

Together with the new 14-inch Macbook Pro, Apple also announced the new 24-inches iMac also powered by the M6 chip.

Aside from the M6 chip, not much has changed in the new iMac. The only other upgrade is wireless: the N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. There were reports that new colors are coming, but they didn’t arrive. The M6 iMac keeps the same seven colors: blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green and silver. The 24-inch 4.5K display, 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker sound system, 16GB minimum memory and 256GB base storage are all unchanged.

Pricing starts at $1,499 for the model with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. That price already reflects a $200 increase Apple gave the M4 iMac over the summer, and the four-port version starts at $1,699. Preorders open Wednesday, October 28, with availability starting November 6.

This is a chip refresh for a Mac that skipped the M5 generation entirely. Owners of the 2024 M4 model have little reason to upgrade, but anyone on an older Intel or M1 iMac gets a meaningful jump in performance and AI capability. Anyone waiting for a redesign or an OLED screen will have to keep waiting, since reports put those several years away.
