DepEd Buys 172,654 MacBook Neo for Teachers and Staff

The Department of Education (DepEd) has bought 172,654 Apple MacBook Neo laptops for public school teachers and administrative staff at about ₱43,000 each. The purchase is part of DepEd’s effort to accelerate the country’s digital education roadmap.

Apple CEO John Ternus revealed the deal on the company’s earnings call, calling it Apple’s “biggest education” deal ever for the Mac.

“I’m feeling great about the opportunities ahead for Apple, from our product roadmap and broad range of services to promising areas like health, emerging markets, enterprise, and education. As one example, we recently secured our biggest education deal ever for Mac, with the Department of Education in the Philippines. They’re going to deploy 170,000 MacBook Neos to teachers and staff. Opportunities like this bring more users into our ecosystem and help fuel growth across our business,”

The call was Ternus’ first since succeeding Tim Cook on September 1. Apple cited a rounded figure of 170,000, while the government’s 172,654 includes an additional allocation for administrative staff.

Malacañang announced the purchase on November 3, 2026. Reports say the price was ₱6,900 below retail. Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the laptops come with a five-year warranty, and distribution begins this month.

The purchase is part of the DepEd Computerization Program, under which the department has awarded contracts for 231,725 laptops for teachers: 169,008 MacBook Neo units and 62,717 Windows-based units.
