Google has officially entered a new hardware chapter with the announcement of the Googlebook, billed as a brand-new category of laptops engineered specifically for modern workflows.
According to Google, the device represents “a new category of laptops designed for the way we work today — is now available for pre-order. Built on the Android technology stack and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, Googlebook is designed for Gemini Intelligence and engineered to work with your Android phone right out of the box.”
Essentially an evolved successor to the traditional Chromebook formula, the Googlebook shifts the focus from lightweight, cloud-centric web browsing to high-end hardware performance and deeply integrated artificial intelligence.
Unlike the budget-friendly, plastic chassis traditionally associated with Chromebooks, Google is launching the Googlebook alongside premier OEM partners—including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

The core engine driving the hardware is Googlebook OS, a unified operating system that merges Android’s app stack directly with ChromeOS’s desktop architecture. Because it runs natively on Android technologies rather than relying on a virtualized app layer, cross-device workflows feel natural.

Googlebook will have a starting price of $899, this includes 12 months of Google AI Pro providing 5TB of cloud storage and our Gemini Advanced tools, plus 3 months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and more. Googlebook OS also comes with regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
Pre-orders are now open on the Google Store, Best Buy, and other select retailers. Devices arrive on shelves starting October 4 in the U.S., and October 5 in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.
