Google Launches Googlebook Premium Laptops with Android Integration

Google has officially entered a new hardware chapter with the announcement of the Googlebook, billed as a brand-new category of laptops engineered specifically for modern workflows.

According to Google, the device represents “a new category of laptops designed for the way we work today — is now available for pre-order. Built on the Android technology stack and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, Googlebook is designed for Gemini Intelligence and engineered to work with your Android phone right out of the box.”

Essentially an evolved successor to the traditional Chromebook formula, the Googlebook shifts the focus from lightweight, cloud-centric web browsing to high-end hardware performance and deeply integrated artificial intelligence.

Unlike the budget-friendly, plastic chassis traditionally associated with Chromebooks, Google is launching the Googlebook alongside premier OEM partners—including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Feature Specification Details
Starting Price $899
Displays Up to 2.8K OLED touchscreens
Processors Intel Core Ultra or Snapdragon X Elite chips
Battery Life 14+ hours of usage
Materials Premium aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber
Updates 10 years of software update support

Unlike earlier generations of Chrome-based laptops, these devices are designed to compete directly with flagship ultrabooks and MacBooks, pairing powerful neural processing units (NPUs) with premium display panels and tactile, elevated builds.

Googlebook OS: Android Stack Meets ChromeOS Foundations

The core engine driving the hardware is Googlebook OS, a unified operating system that merges Android’s app stack directly with ChromeOS’s desktop architecture. Because it runs natively on Android technologies rather than relying on a virtualized app layer, cross-device workflows feel natural.

  • Instant Phone Sync: Messages, files, photos, and apps mirror seamlessly between your Android phone and laptop right out of the box.
  • Universal Search: Shared search indexing lets you locate content on your mobile device straight from your laptop desktop.

AI Features Built Around Gemini Intelligence

Gemini AI is deeply embedded into the operating system rather than treated as a add-on tool:

  • Magic Pointer: An interactive cursor feature powered by Gemini. Wiggling or gesturing with the pointer triggers contextual AI assistance based on what is displayed on your screen—such as automatically extracting event details to populate your calendar or synthesizing multi-document comparisons.
  • Rambler: A voice-to-text tool built for dictation and spontaneous idea structuring. Rambler cleans up spoken thoughts in real time by removing verbal filler (such as “ums” and “ahs”) and adjusting mid-sentence corrections automatically.

Pricing and availability, and Pre-order

Googlebook will have a starting price of $899, this includes 12 months of Google AI Pro providing 5TB of cloud storage and our Gemini Advanced tools, plus 3 months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and more. Googlebook OS also comes with regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.

Pre-orders are now open on the Google Store, Best Buy, and other select retailers. Devices arrive on shelves starting October 4 in the U.S., and October 5 in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.

Googlebook Officially Announced

Google has officially unveiled the Googlebook, a premium new category of laptops designed to succeed the Chromebook by placing AI at the heart of the user experience. Running on a unified OS (codenamed Aluminium), these devices bridge the gap between Android and desktop computing.

Unveiled at the “Android Show: I/O Edition,” the Googlebook is Google’s definitive answer to high-performance laptops, powered by the brand-new Aluminium OS. Unlike its predecessors, the Googlebook is built to handle heavy local processing, specifically designed to run on-device Gemini AI models.

The hardware requirements for the Googlebook badge are rigorous. Every device features a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of at least 40 TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second). Most flagship models utilize Intel’s “Wildcat Lake” Core Series 300 processors or high-efficiency ARM chips from Qualcomm.

To support seamless multitasking between native Android apps and AI workflows, the baseline memory starts at 8GB of RAM, with 16GB becoming the standard for power users. Storage has also seen a massive upgrade, ditching slow eMMC for fast NVMe SSDs starting at 256GB.

Visually, the Googlebook is identified by the “Glowbar,” an LED lightstrip on the lid that pulses during AI interactions. Combined with the Magic Pointer—a haptic trackpad system that allows Gemini to “see” what your cursor is hovering over—the Googlebook isn’t just a laptop; it is an intelligent, high-speed partner for the modern professional.

Googlebooks will initially be available this Fall 2026.
