Gabby Williams saved her best for last. She scored 30 points and was named Finals MVP after the Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 on Saturday night at Chase Center.
Twenty-eight of her points came in the second half, the most in any half of a postseason game in WNBA history. She also blocked four shots and stole the ball twice, in the clincher. A third-quarter run of three straight threes gave life to a sluggish Valkyries offense.
The 4-3 series win gave the franchise its first championship. It is the fastest title ever won by an expansion team in the WNBA. Williams signed with Golden State this offseason and became the engine of the league’s top-ranked defense, while also stepping up as a scorer.
