Cleveland Unveils “Sirens” as Official Name for WNBA Expansion Franchise

Professional women’s basketball is making its long-awaited return to Northeast Ohio under a bold new identity: the Cleveland Sirens. Unveiled by Rock Entertainment Group at Rocket Arena, the name marks the official branding of the WNBA’s 16th expansion franchise, which is scheduled to begin play in the 2028 season.

Departing from the city’s original WNBA moniker—the Cleveland Rockers—the Sirens brand draws direct inspiration from Greek mythology and the magnetic power of Lake Erie. Designed to reflect a spirit that is sharp, fearless, and unapologetic, the identity highlights a presence built to command attention. The team’s visual palette introduces Sirens Blue, Erie Blue, and a mint foam accent, incorporating wave motifs that pay homage to both local geography and the rising tide of women’s athletics.

Led by team president Allison Howard, the franchise has already secured major community partnerships and thousands of season-ticket deposits well ahead of its debut. Sharing Rocket Arena with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Sirens are set to deliver year-round professional basketball back to Northeast Ohio.
