The Indiana Fever couldn’t complete the comeback in Brooklyn on Saturday night, dropping a 109-102 decision to the New York Liberty at Barclays Center in the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the two clubs. This is Indiana’s second straight loss for their 5 game road trip, but it did little to dampen the bigger picture: the Fever are already a lock for the 2026 WNBA playoffs, and every game left on the schedule is now about seeding rather than survival.

New York controlled most of the night behind a balanced, healthy attack — something the Liberty hadn’t had in weeks. Jonquel Jones got going early despite a banged-up ankle, scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the first half alone as New York built a 53-49 lead at the break. The Liberty tried pulled away in the third quarter when Sabrina Ionescu and returning forward Leonie Fiebich combined for 19 of the team’s 31 points in the period, stretching the lead to 85-78 heading into the fourth.

Indiana didn’t go quietly. The Fever clawed back to tie the game at 100 late, powered by a Kelsey Mitchell three-pointer, before New York closed the door at the free-throw line and on a tough Fiebich bucket through contact with under a minute remaining. A missed Caitlin Clark layup on the ensuing possession sealed New York’s win.

The result moves the Liberty to 23-15 on the season, while the Fever slip to 24-14.

The win over the Liberty came on the second night of a back-to-back, just 24 hours after the Fever defeated the Storm.

Spurs had this in the bag, they could never miss a 3-points in the first half and built a 29 point lead, the Spur had a 27 point lead entering the 3rd then the Spurs started missing their outside shot and the Knicks erases the lead and made it to a 15 point game in the 4th and that’s where everything fell apart for the Spurs.

Jost Hart may not have a great offesive game but was big on the defensive side, including the a steal of Wembanyama that resulted to a Brunson jumper that gave them the a 6-point lead (101 – 95).

The Spurs had their chance to wrap the game up but a number of turnover that resulted to a Knick point lost them the game. Victor Wembanyama lead the Spurs with 26 points, 12 rebs and 3 blocks but he also committed 6 turnover. Stephon Castle had 17 points and 8 rebounds, while rookie Dylan Harper, who is playing like a seasoned veteran added 16 points and 8 rebounds.

If I have to plant a flag and make a definitive prediction on this matchup, I am going with the New York Knicks in 6 games.

Here is why the Knicks have the edge to bring the Larry O’Brien trophy back to Madison Square Garden for the first time in 53 years:

1. The Rest and Freshness Factor
The Knicks are coming into the Finals with a massive rest advantage. They absolutely dismantled the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 4-0 sweep, meaning they will have had over a full week to rest, heal up, and game-plan.

On the flip side, the Spurs had to endure an absolute war against the Thunder. Surviving a grueling, emotionally draining 7-game series—especially winning Game 7 on the road—takes a massive physical toll. By Game 5 or 6, that fatigue could easily start showing for San Antonio.

2. Team Chemistry and Perimeter Dominance
The Knicks’ “Villanova-core” roster construction is built precisely for this moment. Jalen Brunson is playing at an otherworldly level, and having elite, versatile wing defenders like Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby gives New York the ultimate tools to disrupt San Antonio’s perimeter creators like De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell. New York turns over teams, controls the pace, and rarely makes mistakes.

Karl Anthony-Towns had 19 points and 14 rebounds, OG Anunoby scored 17 and the New York Knicks routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 Monday night to complete a four-game sweep of the Eastern Conference finals and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

Landry Shamet scored 16 off the bench while Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson had 15 apiece for the Knicks, who became the fourth team to have an 11-game winning streak during their postseason run. The last to do it was Golden State, which had a 15-game run en route to its second title in three seasons in 2017.

The Knicks took the wind out of the Cavs’ sails with that Game 1 comeback and completely demoralized them for the rest of the series!

Jalen Brunson led the charge for New York, dropping 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, while making his presence felt on the defensive end with 3 steals. To say that the Knicks destroyed the Hawks would be an understatement. The game technically finished in the 1st half after limiting Atlanta to a 15 pointsm and 21 points, while scoring 40 points and 43 points, in the first two quarters.

After suffering back-to-back one-point losses in Games 2 and 3 to go down 2-1 in the series, the Knicks never lost again. The Indiana Fever had a strong start to their 2026 campaign with a commanding 109–91 victory over the New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Saturday. While exhibition games often focus on roster experimentation, the Fever showcased a high-octane offense that left the Liberty scrambling to keep pace.

Indiana’s victory was fueled by a balanced scoring effort as Kelsey Mitchell and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the charge with 18 points each, demonstrating the backcourt depth the team has assembled in the off-season. Raven Johnson, the No. 10 overall pick, shut critics down by making a game-high eight assists and proving she is ready for the professional spotlight. Caitlin Clark back from her USA basketball, ignited the crowd in her return to action, finishing with seven points and four assists in 17 minutes.

The Liberty, playing without their full starting rotation, saw strong flashes from Han Xu, who recorded 20 points and was a defensive presence with 2 blocks, and Breanna Stewart, who added 16. However, Indiana’s fast paced-game game and 32-point first-quarter explosion proved too much to overcome. The Fever now look toward their next preseason test against the Dallas Wings on May 1st.

NY Liberty routs Indiana Fever Sans Caitlin Clark (98 – 77)

The New York Liberty did defeat the Indiana Fever with a score of 98-77. The Fever were without their star point guard Caitlin Clark due to a right groin injury she sustained the previous night against the Connecticut Sun.

It was a close game at the start until Liberty ran way with the game building a 15-point lead by the end of first half and never look back. Liberty’s largest lead was 26 points (48 – 74) in the 3rd quarter.

Breanna Stewart lead the NY with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points and 9 assists.

Fever’s leading scorer is Kelsey Mitchell with 16 points, followed by Sophie Cunningham, who moved up to start the game with 12 points and Damiris Dantas added another 11 points. NY Liberty’s win halt’s Indiana’s 3 game winning streak against the Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings and Connecticut Suns.

This will be Fever’s last game as they prepare for the WNBA All-Star Weekend. After the break, they will face the Liberty once again, Wednesday night.
