Spain defeated defending champion Argentina to take home the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Spain reached the pinnacle of international football once again, edging defending champions Argentina 1–0 in extra time during a dramatic 2026 FIFA World Cup final at New York New Jersey Stadium.

Throughout 90 minutes of tense, tactical warfare, La Roja controlled possession while testing Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who delivered 12 saves to keep La Albiceleste afloat. Argentina’s defensive resilience faltered in the 93rd minute when Enzo Fernández received a second yellow card, forcing them to navigate extra time with ten men.

The decisive moment arrived in the 106th minute. Pedro Porro floated a far-post cross that Nico Williams headed down into the path of substitute Ferran Torres, who slammed a first-time strike into the roof of the net.

The victory marks Spain’s second World Cup title—their first since 2010—capping an incredible campaign where they conceded just one goal throughout the entire tournament. You can watch the full highlights here.

The next FIFA World Cup will be in 2030 and will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.
