Nissan Motor Co. has officially launched the refreshed Fairlady Z and track-focused Fairlady Z NISMO in Japan, combining deep-rooted legacy cues with modern performance and cabin updates.
The standard Fairlady Z pays homage to iconic predecessors across multiple generations. Up front, the historic Z emblem makes a prominent return to the front fascia for the first time in years. A redesigned front bumper extends the vehicle’s nose to lower aerodynamic drag while emphasizing classic long-hood proportions. Exterior styling is further elevated by retro Z31 aero-disc forged aluminum wheels and ten color options, including a vintage Unryu Green two-tone finish inspired by the original S30 Grand Prix Green. Inside, drivers receive an optional S30-inspired tan cabin, a digital instrument cluster that displays a startup animation featuring every Z silhouette, and upgraded monotube shock absorbers engineered with a 26.6% larger pressure-receiving area for smoother high-speed stability.
Addressing driver demand, the performance-oriented Fairlady Z NISMO introduces an exclusive short-throw six-speed manual transmission alongside dedicated throttle and ignition tuning. The manual setup offers distinct Standard and Sport drive modes complete with custom acceleration sound profiles. Track capability is boosted by two-piece drilled front brake rotors derived from the Nissan GT-R, bright red calipers, a low-friction steering rack, and a NISMO-exclusive VDC Traction mode designed to sharpen turn-in response and control.
Both models incorporate key hardware and technology upgrades for daily usability. A new interior fuel tank chamber ensures stable fuel delivery under aggressive cornering, while safety systems are enhanced with emergency bicycle-detection braking. Drivers also gain an active-cooled, Qi2-compatible magnetic wireless charger designed to keep devices secure and powered during high-vibration driving.
