Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 6s Gen 3: Modest Bump for the Mid-Range

Qualcomm has quietly introduced the latest addition to its mid-range mobile processor lineup, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. While positioned as a new generation chip, it appears to be more of an iterative upgrade than a ground-up redesign.

The focus of the 6s Gen 3 seems to be on providing performance boost over its predecessors, the Snapdragon 695. This is achieved through a modestly overclocked CPU. The new chip utilizes two Kryo CPU clusters: a pair of Cortex-A78 cores reaching up to 2.3 GHz and a cluster of six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz.

Beyond the CPU bump, details are a bit sparse. Qualcomm mentions an Adreno GPU but hasn’t confirmed any specific improvements. The 6s Gen 3 utilizes a 6nm manufacturing process, ensuring decent power efficiency alongside its performance gains.

The chip supports global 5G connectivity with Sub-6 and mmWave support, making it a great option for upcoming mid-range smartphones. It also boasts the Qualcomm® Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine for enhanced AI capabilities and a FastConnect 6200 modem for improved connectivity.

However, a potential weak spot lies in the camera capabilities. The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 reportedly only supports up to 1080p@60fps video capture, which might be underwhelming considering most flagship phones have moved on to higher resolutions.

Overall, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 seems like a competent mid-range processor offering a slight performance improvement over previous options. While it delivers the expected features like 5G and AI capabilities, the decent camera support might be a point of consideration for smartphone manufacturers. While there’s no official word yet on which smartphones will sport this chip, we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

About that USB-C Connector in the new iPhones

The new iPhones will have USB-C ports. This is a major change from previous iPhones, which have used the Lightning connector. The switch to USB-C is being made in order to comply with a new European Union regulation that requires all new smartphones to have USB-C ports.

The USB-C port, as mentioned by Android users, is a more versatile port than the Lightning connector. It can be used to charge devices, transfer data, and connect to external displays. It is also the standard port used by many other devices, such as laptops, tablets, and cameras. This means that you will be able to use the same charger and cable for your iPhone 15 and other devices. It is however not yet confirmed if the new iPhones will be able to support external displays.

The switch to USB-C is a welcome change for many iPhone users. It is a more modern and versatile port that will make it easier to connect the iPhone to other devices and accessories. It is also a step towards reducing e-waste, as there will be no need to have separate chargers for different devices.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have USB-C ports that support USB 2.0 speeds, though this is yet to be confirmed. This means that the new iPhones be capable to transfer data at a maximum speed of 480 Mbps. However, it is possible that Apple may release a later version of the iPhone 15 with a USB-C port that supports faster speeds.

Overall, the switch to USB-C is a positive change for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. It is a more versatile and modern port that will make it easier to connect the iPhone to other devices. It is also a step towards reducing e-waste.

Apple plans to release a yellow iPhone 14

It appears we will see another yellow iPhone will be as reports of a yellow iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have been floating around the net.

In an article on macrumors.com, Apple plans to release a yellow iPhone 14 and 14 Plus this spring, which is according to a Weibo post shared by Japanese blog Mac Otakara. As with any report outside Apple, we need to take this report with a grain of salt, since it’s hard to confirm the credibility of the Weibo account.

According to numerous sources, Apple’s PR department is preparing a product briefing for next week. On Tuesday, March 8 of last year, Apple introduced new Green hues for the iPhone 13 series, so there is a potential the briefing is connected to the announcement of a new iPhone color, but the topic of the briefing has not yet been confirmed.

The last time Apple released a yellow iPhone was in 2018 and 2019, when the company release the iPhone XR and iPhone 11, respectively. So far, the yellow color appears to be exclusive to iPhone 14 and 14 Plus and it’s unclear if it will find its way to the iPhone 14 Pro line, since yellow is very similar to the gold color.

The Realme GT3 will have a starting price of $650 for an 8/128GB model, making it the cheapest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phones available. Going back to its fast charging, Realme explained that their “special sauce” for fast charge is the three “industry first” charging technologies. The Realme GT3 uses three 100W charging chips to achieve 98.5% transfer efficiency during charging. The power comes from a dual GaN charger that is the same size as Realme’s 150W charger from its previous smartphones, and third, is the first 12A USB cable since no one needed to push that much current over USB before.
