Jason Momoa as Lobo in the new Supergirl movie is one of those rare examples of “Perfect Casting”

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has officially broken the internet by sharing a first-look teaser of Jason Momoa as Lobo. In the viral clip, Momoa exits his trailer sporting the character’s iconic fangs and a cigar, simply drawling, “Finally.”

The footage confirms Momoa will star as the intergalactic bounty hunter in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, hitting theaters June 26, 2026. Gunn revealed that Momoa has lobbied for the “Main Man” since day one, texting him in all caps the moment the new DCU was announced. Fans—myself included—are already calling it a masterstroke of casting, praising the rugged, comic-accurate transformation.

It’s a rare phenomenon in Hollywood: that moment when an actor and a character align so perfectly that the two become inseparable. While we usually have to wait for the film to hit theaters to be sure, some roles feel like they were written into an actor’s DNA from the start.

In honor of Momoa’s “Main Man” debut, here are some of the most perfect castings in cinema history:

Actor Role
Ryan Reynolds Deadpool
Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man
Hugh Jackman Wolverine
Margot Robbie Harley Quinn
J.K. Simmons J. Jonah Jameson
Patrick Stewart Professor X (X-Men)
Christopher Reeve Superman (Superman)
Ron Perlman Hellboy (Hellboy)
Chadwick Boseman T’Challa (Black Panther)
Tom Hiddleston Loki (Thor/MCU)
