Nintendo developing a live action adaption of The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo has announced that they are developing a live action adaption of The Legend of Zelda.

The film will be produced by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who co-created The Legend of Zelda and Avi Arad, former head and CEO of Marvel Studios, now the Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., who has produced many mega hit films like ‘Iron Man (2008),’ that started the MCU; ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ as well as ‘Venom’ and its sequel, just to name a few.

Nintendo also announced that Wes Ball, will be the director of the film. Ball is known for directing all three Maze Runner film and the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. The theatrical distribution of the film will be done worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.

With the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s not surprising that Nintendo will be looking at their other IP and developing them into film franchise.

Universal Studios Japan’s new area, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD officially opened last November 2020, where it features real-world replica of Princess Peach and Bowser’s Castle, a cafe staffed by TOADS, it also has a AR Mario Kart-themed roller coaster.

Shigeru Miyamoto also walked through the different area of the park that replicates the look and feel of the different areas of the games, like the underground area that will make you feel a smallsized Mario, and POW block and interactive blocks that when punched will give that familiar Mario coin-collecting sound.

Super Nintendo World was originally set to open before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic that also pushed back the Olympics schedule. Super Nintendo World will be open to the public on February 4, 2021. Universal Studios also plans to open Super Nintendo World zones in Hollywood, California; Orlando, Florida; and Singapore.
