Triple-Double King: Russell Westbrook Retires After 18 Relentless Seasons

After 18 relentless seasons in the NBA, future Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook officially announced his retirement on social media, capping off one of the most explosive and statistically dominant careers in basketball history. Captured in a poignant farewell video captioned, “You had to be there. And now it’s over,” the 37-year-old guard steps away on his own terms as the undisputed king of the triple-double.

Drafted 4th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2008 before immediately transitioning with the franchise to become an Oklahoma City Thunder legend, Westbrook’s journey spanned seven teams. Following 11 iconic seasons in OKC—where he led the team to the 2012 NBA Finals—he suited up for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and finally, the Sacramento Kings.

Westbrook re-wrote basketball record books during his electrifying career. The 2017 NBA Most Valuable Player made history by becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double across an entire season, doing so four separate times and retiring as the league’s all-time leader with 209 career triple-doubles. A nine-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA selection, two-time scoring champion, three-time assist leader, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, Westbrook leaves behind an unmatched legacy of pure intensity, passion, and historic versatility.

Jordan Poole beat the buzzer for the Wizards win over the Nuggets (126 – 123)

It was a Poole’s party in Denver when Jordan Poole sank a 3-pointer with 5.3 seconds remaining in the game, spoiling another 40-point game by Jokic. Poole scored 19 points and 6 assists. Wizards rookie Alex Sarr had a career night, scoring 34 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Nikola Jokic, led the Nuggets with 40 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, while Jamal Murray added 24 points and Russell Westbrook finished the game with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 11 assists.

Nuggets will travel to San Francisco to face the streaking Warriors on Tuesday night, while the Wizards will visit the Blazers in Portland, this Monday night.

Despite the loss, Joel Embiid posted photos of him dunking over Russell Westbrook

Despite the 122-112 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Sixers Center Joel Embiid posted a photo of him dunking over OKC’s Russell Westbrook. The photos has a caption “Tough loss #TheProcess” and the location indicated as “Crime Scene Investigation”.

If you watched the game or even the highlight reel, you can see Embiid stare down Westbrook while he run down for defense. The photo could add color to the already colorful 2018 NBA All Star this February, where Embiid is with Team Stephen, while Westbrook is with Team Lebron.

Just incase you cannot find that Embiid dunk that sent Westbrook to the graveyard, here’s a 3 min video of every dunk of the game. The Embiid dunk is at the 35 seconds mark.
