Netflix just release the official trailer of Ray Gunn, a retro-futuristic animated film from Netflix and Skydance Animation.

Brad Bird, who is known for “The Incredibles”, “Ratatouille” and “The Iron Giant” returns with Ray Gunn, will direct the animated film – a blend of detective noir and sci-fi adventure. Pitch-described by Bird as “The Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers,” the project is a passion project three decades in the making.

The premise  of the film, “In Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, private eye Raymond Gunn (Sam Rockwell) is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova (Scarlett Johansson).”

• Scarlett Johansson as Venus Nova, the enigmatic celebrity at the center of the mystery.
• Tom Waits as Eyera, Gunn’s trusted one-eyed alien partner.

• Music:Scored by long-time Bird collaborator Michael Giacchino (Up, The Incredibles), featuring original songs written by Kimbra and performed by Scarlett Johansson.

Ray Gunn is scheduled for a limited theatrical run starting on December 4, 2026, before launching globally on Netflix on December 18, 2026.
