NTC Fines Globe, Smart, and DITO ₱100k Daily for Subpar Mobile Broadband Services

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued Show Cause Orders against the country’s top telecommunications providers—Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and DITO Telecommunity—imposing a fine of ₱100,000 per day on each operator. The financial penalty will remain active until the companies rectify persistent service deficiencies and meet the required Quality of Service (QoS) standards.

The regulatory action follows performance audits conducted in September 2026, which revealed that mobile broadband speeds and signal reliability in several key Metro Manila locations failed to show noticeable improvement from earlier evaluations. Despite prior warnings issued throughout the year, follow-up tests confirmed weak coverage and sluggish internet connections in designated areas across the National Capital Region.

Alongside the daily fines, the regulator has required each telecom company to submit a technical corrective action plan detailing targeted infrastructure upgrades and explicit implementation timelines. To ensure strict compliance, the NTC plans to conduct re-validations every two weeks while expanding its quality checks nationwide. This regulatory crackdown highlights growing government pressure on service providers to deliver stable, high-speed mobile internet to Filipino consumers.
