ICYMI: Las Vegas Aces are the 2025 WNBA Champions

After being pushed to the limit by the Indiana Fever, the Las Vegas Aces, lead by A’ja Wilson, sweeps the Phoeniz Mercury, celebrating on their home court. Even though its a sweep, 3 of the 4 games was decided in the last minutes of the game, this includes Games 3, where A’ja Wilson buried a mid-range fade-away to give the Aces the lead and the win.

This will be Las Vegas’ 3rd championship in 4 years and will surely be the favorite next season.

WNBA just concluded their regular season with all the seedings completed. Below are your WNBA Playoff Bracket for the 1st round of the WNBA Playoff.

1 – Minnesota Lynx vs 8 – Golden State Valkyries
2 – Las Vegas Aces vs 7 – Seattle Storm
3 – Atlanta Dream vs 6 – Indiana Fever
4 – Phoenix Mercury vs 5 – New York Liberty

Round One of the WNBA Playoffs will kick off this Sunday, Sept. 14th. It will be a best-of-three-game series, the 2nd round will be a best-of-five, and the Finals is a best-of-seven-game series.

Indiana Fever defeats Phoenix Mercury to extend streak to 3 wins (107 – 101)

The Indiana Fever got their first win against DeWanna Bonner and the Phoenix Mercury (107 – 101). It was Bonner’s first game against the Fever and as expected the crowd boos her as soon as she gets a hold of the ball. Fever is still without Caitlin Clark who is out due to a groin injury since the 2025 All-Star games.

It was a total team effort by the Fever, with five players scoring in double digits. Aari McDonald scored a career-high 27 points, including 3 three-pointers. Aliyah Boston had 22 points and 12 rebounds, marking her 12th double-double for the season and was unstoppable, scoring 17 of this 22 points in the 4th quarter.

Sophie Cunningham and Damiris Dantas each scored 12 points, and Chloe Bibby added 10 points off the bench. Kelsey Mitchell, who played exceptionally well in their last game against the Sky, was limited to just 8 points due to foul trouble, while Natasha Howard, despite scoring just 6 points, was big on the defensive end with 2 blocks, 1 steal, and 6 rebounds.

For Phoenix, Alyssa Thomas lead Phoenix with 32 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists. Kahleah Copper added 22 points and Sami Whitcomb scored 18, including the buzzer-beater 3-points to end the first half. DeWanna Bonner who signed with the Fever at the start of the season but left to go Phoenix after 9 games.

Indiana Fever will try to win their 4th game as they go to Dallas this Saturday, while Phoenix will go to Atlanta also this coming Saturday.

Phoenix Mercury Diana Taurasi retires after 20 years in the WNBA

Phoenix Mercury Diana Taurasi has officially announce that “sheโ€™s retiring from basketball.”

In an article published by Time Magazine;

Taurasi reveals publicly for the first time that sheโ€™s retiring from basketball. โ€œMentally and physically, Iโ€™m just full,โ€ says Taurasi, who played all 20 of her WNBA seasons for the Mercury. โ€œThatโ€™s probably the best way I can describe it. Iโ€™m full and Iโ€™m happy.โ€

She played for the Phoenix Mercury, who drafted her at first overall in the 2004 WNBA draft and played for the team for 20 years. The late Kobe Bryant gave her the nickname “White Mamba” and she is the leading scorer in WNBA history and voted “greatest of all time” by the WNBA’s fans.

As for accolades, Taurasi is one of 11 women to win an Olympic gold medal, an NCAA Championship, a FIBA World Cup, and a WNBA Championship.

2024 WNBA Playoff Bracket, First Round starts on the 22nd of September

Now that the 40 games WNBA regular season is done, we now have the complete picture of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs.

  • New York Liberty (1st) vs Atlanta Dream (8th)
  • Minnesota Lynx (2nd) vs Phoenix Mercury (7th)
  • Connecticut Sun (3rd) vs Indiana Fever (6th)
  • Las Vegas Aces (4th) vs Seattle Storm (5th)

This is the mechanics of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs;

Top eight teams with the highest winning percentage (regardless of conference) will qualify for playoffs. Bracket is NOT divided by East/West. First Rounds will be 2-1 (first two games hosted by the higher seed). Semi-Finals and Finals will be 2-2-1 (higher seed hosting the first two games and final game, if necessary).

First Rounds will start this Sunday, September 22, 2024.
