Dikembe Mutombo passed away at the age of 58 from brain cancer

NBA announced the death of one of the greatest big man in the NBA. He known for wagging his right index finger whenever he blocks a shot.

Drafted by the Denver Nuggets, Mutombo was the fourth overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft. After 6 season with the Nuggets, he signed a 5-year, $55 million free agent contract with the Atlanta Hawks, then one-year with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets, he reached the NBA Finals while playing for both teams. In October 2003, he signed a two-year deal with the New York Knicks, then in 2004 the Knicks traded him to the Chicago Bulls, but before the start of the season the Bulls traded Mutombo to the Houston Rockets where he played for 5-years and retired in 2009 as Rockets.

Philippine music legend Coritha passes away at 73

Coritha, a revered figure in the Philippine music scene, passed away on Friday, September 27, at 7:50 in the evening.

Her death was confirmed by Dr. Digna Santos, the youngest sister of Coritha’s partner, Luisito Santos.

The singer died at Santos’ residence in Barangay Maharlika East in Tagaytay City.

Coritha’s remains were cremated shortly after, at around 10:30 p.m.

A big loss for the Ph music industry.

NBA Hall of Famer and Basketball legend Bill Walton, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Walton, a two-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer, died on Monday surrounded by family in a statement released by the NBA.

Bill Walton is a two-time NBA champion; 1976–77 season with the Portland Trail Blazers, also named Finals MVP, and 1984–85 season with Boston Celtics, earning the sixth man award. Walton is a member of both the NBA’s 50th anniversary and 75th anniversary teams. For his college career, he is a two-time champion at UCLA and a three-time national player of the year.

Tributes are pouring in from across the basketball community. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called Walton “truly one of a kind,” while former teammate Larry Bird described him as a “great friend” and “a thrill to play with.”

Cannes Best Actress Jaclyn Jose Dies of Heart Attack at 59

The sudden loss of Jaclyn Jose saddened the Philippine Entertainment Industry. The cause of death was a heart attack. Jaclyn Jose, born as Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck, received international acclaim when she won Best Actress in Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first ever Filipino to receive it.

She starred famously in the Batang Quiapo drama series as the antagonist Dolores Espinas. Even before, she played antagonist roles convincingly well. Her family found her in her Quezon City home March 3, 2024. The family has stated they will share details soon, and is requesting privacy during their time of grief.

Jaclyn Jose’s role in Ma’Rosa (2016) was of a mother trying to make ends meet by selling crystal meth. She plays Rosa, a mother of three children. Her daughter Andi Eigenmann also played in the film as one of Rosa’s children.

Jaclyn Jose is originally from Angeles, Pampanga. She grew up with six siblings. Her mother was also an actress, as well as her sister Veronica Jones. The police say no foul play has been involved in the incident. The official statement from the bereaved family confirms the investigation.

Mike Enriquez passed away at 71

Veteran broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez, real name Miguel Castro Enriquez, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 71. He was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday night after complaining of chest pains.

Enriquez was a household name in the Philippines for his work as a radio and television personality. He hosted numerous radio and TV shows, as well as news program on Manila Broadcasting Company, Freedom Broadcasting Radio Network, Radio Mindanao Network or RMN, GMA Network and even at ABS-CBN. The known for his punchlines, such as “excuse me po,” and “hindi ko kayo tatantanan.”

In 2018, Enriquez took a medical leave to undergo a heart bypass and get treated for kidney disease, then in December 2021 to undergo a kidney transplant, he returned to work in time for the 2022 election coverage.

He was also a recipient of numerous awards, including the Catholic Mass Media Award for Best News Commentary in 2001 and the BizNews Asia for Broadcast Excellence Award in 2014. The most recent award that he received is the Most Trusted Radio Presenter by the Annual Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Awards 2023.

Enriquez’s death is a huge loss for the Philippine broadcast industry. He was a respected journalist and a beloved figure to many. Enriquez is regarded as one of the most influential journalists in the Philippines and a “pillar” of the Philippine broadcasting industry.

In a statement, GMA Network said that “it is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel “Mike” C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.”

Enriquez is survived by his wife Lizabeth “Baby” Yumping. The couple did not have any children.

His funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died at the age of 50

Long time Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died at the age of 50, the statement was made from the band’s official social media accounts. No cause of death was given.

Taylor Hawkins played with Foo Fighters for more than two decades, joining them in 1997. Prior to Foo Fighters, Hawkins was the touring drummer of Sass Jordan and Alanis Morissette, as well as the progressive experimental band Sylvia. Hawkins also played the drums and sang for his own side project band, the Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders.

Foo Fighters are currently in South America and scheduled to perform at Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia.

Cranberries’ lead singer Dolores O’Riordan died suddenly in London. The news of her passing was posted on the band’s official Facebook page and requesting privacy for her family.

Cranberries and Dolores O’Riordan hits includes 90’s hit songs “Linger”, “Zombie”, “Ode to My Family”, “Free to Decide”, and many more.

Cranberries recently released a new acoustic album titled Something Else last 28 April 2017.
