Ja Morant Traded to Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired guard Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for forward Jerami Grant and forward Kris Murray, it was announced today by General Manager Joe Cronin.

Morant (6-2, 174) has appeared in 327 career games (325 starts) over seven NBA seasons with Memphis, averaging 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 31.7 minutes per game. He has earned NBA All-Star honors twice (2022, 2023), was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2022 and received the NBA Most Improved Player Award following the 2021-22 season.

Memphis Grizzlies have now traded all their 4 core players of Morant, Dillon Brooks, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane, and appears to be rebuilding with their young player lead by Cameron Boozer, the No. 3 pick in the 2026 draft.

Morant will join a young and point guard heavy Blazers team fresh off its first playoff appearance lead by Deni Avdija, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, with their veterans, Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard.

Warriors out hustles the Grizzlies to secure the 7th Seed in the West Playoffs (121 – 116)

The Golden State Warriors have secured the 7th seed in the Western Conference Playoffs with a win over the Memphis Grizzlies (121-116). Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry led the Warriors with a combined score of 75 points. Stephen Curry scored 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Jimmy Butler added 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Beyond the stat sheet, Butler brought grit and hustle to the game, an aspect the Warriors were missing before they traded for him.

The Warriors were able to build a 20-point lead early in the game and appeared to be on their way to an easy win, but the Grizzlies managed to cut the lead to just 3 points by the end of the 3rd quarter, even taking a 1-point lead at the start of the 4th quarter.

Curry managed to make two consecutive three-pointers with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. Even after a couple of turnovers by the Warriors, the Grizzlies were unable to capitalize and take the lead with less than 3 minutes to play.

The Warriors took over the game after Curry made all four of his final free throws, giving Golden State a 5-point lead to end the game.

Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies with 30 points, shooting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Ja Morant, who twisted his ankle early in the game, added 22 points, and Jaren Jackson Jr. also added 18 points and 6 rebounds.

The Golden State Warriors will not get their much-needed rest and will face the Houston Rockets in the 1st Round of the Western Conference Playoffs this Sunday, April 20th. The Grizzlies will have another chance to advance to the playoffs by playing against the winner between the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings.

NBA Play-in Tournament now Set

Now that the regular season is over, we now have the complete picture for this year’s NBA Play-in Tournament.

EAST

  • Game 1 – Orlando Magic (7) versus Atlanta Hawks (8)
  • Game 2 – Chicago Bulls (9) versus Miami Heat (10)

The winner in Game 1 will be the 7th seed and will face the Boston Celtics. The losing team will face the winner of Game 2 to play for the 8th seed and will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1st round of the Playoffs.

WEST

  • Game 1 – Golden State Warriors (7) versus Memphis Grizzlies (8)
  • Game 2 – Sacramento Kings (9) versus Dallas Mavericks (10)

The winner in Game 1 will be the 7th seed and will face the Houston Rockets, while the losing team will face the winner of Game 2 to play for the 8th seed and will face the Oklahoma Thunders in the 1st round of the Playoffs.

The NBA Play-in tournament starts this Wednesday, April 16th.

NBA suspends Ja Morant for 25 games

NBA just announced that Ja Morant will be suspended for 25 games without pay for conduct detrimental to the league. NBA added that Morant will “be required to meet certain conditions before he returns to play and will be ineligible to participate in any public league or team activities including preseason games.”

“Ja Morant’s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement Friday. “The potential for other young people to emulate Ja’s conduct is particularly concerning. Under these circumstances, we believe a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated.”

Here’s the official statement from NBA;

Last month, Morant was spotted with what seemed to be a gun on a friend’s Instagram page, which sparked the most recent NBA probe. In preparation for the NBA punishment, the Grizzlies had previously suspended Morant from team activities. Ja Morant on his part release a statement regarding his suspension;

At the same time, National Basketball Players Association find the suspension “excessive” with NBPA Executive Director Tamika Tremaglio’s statement on the suspension of Morant.

The Memphis Grizzlies also released their own statement, saying “We respect the league’s decision to suspend Ja Morant following this latest episode. Our standards as a league and team are clear, and we expect that all team personnel will adhere to them.”

It’s unclear how the suspension will affect the first 25 games of the Grizzlies, even though the team showed that they can hold on their own even without their star player.

The Los Angeles Lakers will advance to the 2nd round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs after dismantling a resilient Memphis Grizzlies. It was a block party for the Lakers with a team total of 15 blocks against Grizzlies’ 2 blocks.

Lakers leading scorer for the game is D’Angelo Russell scored a career playoff-high 31 points with five 3-pts made. LeBron James made 22 points and 6 assists, while Anthony Davis chipped in 16 points, 14 rebs with 5 blocks.

As for the Grizzlies, their top scorer for the game is the seldom used Santi Aldama scoring 16 points with two 3-points made. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane scored a combined 25 points, while Jaren Jackson Jr. had 14 on a 25% shooting.

Lakers will face in the 2nd round of the 2023 NBA Playoff the winner of the Game 7 between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.

Memphis Grizzlies All-Star guard Ja Morant is in hot waters after flashing a gun on in one of his Instagram Live Video. In an article by ClutchPoints, Morant posted an IG live early Saturday morning, he and his friends appeared to be in a nightclub when he flashed on what appeared to be a gun. The video have been taken down and social media accounts of Ja Morant are now inaccessible to the public.

Morant through his agent Jim Tanner released a statement; “I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down,” it read. “I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

NBA is also investigating the incident and released the following statement via NBA spokesman Mike Bass.

Morant’s team also released their own statement stating that Morant will miss two games; Sunday against the LA Clippers and/or Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers;

The IG video is just one of the current issue that Ja Morant is facing, including the Washington Post report detailing Morant’s involvement in punching and threatening a teenager. The other incident was a confrontation with a mall security guard in a parking lot, as well as the red laser pointer incident with members of the Pacers last February 5.

Golden State Warriors survived the Memphis Grizzlies even after Steph Curry ejection for throwing his mouth piece with 1:14 remaining in the game. Steph appeared to be frustrated after Jordan Poole missing a 30-footer with more than 10 seconds left in the shot clock. Jordan Poole did made it up for making the winning shot with 2.6 seconds left in the game.

It was a thrilling game between the rivals that could potentially meet in the 1st round of the Playoffs. Aside from their starters, Warriors received a lot of help their young guns most notably Jonathan Kuminga who contributed 13-pts, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block.

Warriors next game with be against Toronto Raptors at home, while the Memphis Grizzlies will be on the road against Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ja Morant unveils his signature shoes with Nike the “Nike Ja 1”

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant just unveil his long awaited signature shoes, the Nike Ja 1. This announcement will make Morant the 23rd player in NBA history to receive his own signature sneaker with Nike.

Morant wore his new shoes during their game against the Golden State Warriors but prior to that, he did an unboxing video which he posted on his twitter account. The Nike Ja 1 will be available globally by April 2023 and no price have been announced as of this posting.

Golden State Warriors are back in the Western Conference Finals by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies, 110 – 96.

It was a must win for the Warriors after an embarrassing lost in Game 5 at Memphis, when they trailed by as many as 55 points and lose by 39. It was an evenly matched games until in the closing minutes of the game where Warriors found their stroke in the 3-point line and went on a 21-3 run to close the game.

It started with Andrew Wiggins who scored 10 of his 18 points in the 4th qtr with a pair of timely 3s that kept them in the game, then Steph Curry found his shooting touch late in the closing minute. together with Klay Thompson, who shot 8 of 14 from 3-point range — 11 for 22 for the game – this was his fourth career postseason game with eight 3s, tying Ray Allen, Curry, and Damian Lillard for most in NBA history.

GSW also got a huge boost from Kevon Looney grabbing 22 rebounds and Draymond Green with 14-points, 15-rebounds and 8-assists.

The Grizzlies are without their 3rd-year star PG Ja Morant, who is suffering from a bone bruise, which the team blamed on Jordan Poole pulling on the knee while going for a loose ball in Game 3.

The Warriors are also missing key personnel namely; Gary Payton II with a broken his left elbow, which suffered from an awkward fall after being hit over the head by Brooks in Game 2; Otto Porter Jr. with soreness in his right foot and Veteran Andre Iguodala, who is still sidelined with a left cervical disc injury. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is also MIA, since entering league’s Health & Safety protocols, he is expected to be back by Game 1 of the WCF.

The Golden State Warrior will face the winner of the game 7 matchup between Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks.

Even though Steph Curry will not defend his 3-Point crown, there are plenty of star power for this year’s Mountain Dew 3-Point Contest at the NBA 2022 All-Star in Cleveland.
