Malacañang declared January 9th as a Special Non-Working Holiday in the City of Manila in observance to the Feast of the Black Nazarene

Malacañang just declared that Tuesday, 9th of January will be a Special Non-working day for the City of Manila to give way to the thousands, if not millions of devotees, who will celebrate the Feast of the Black Nazarene also known as the Traslación.

A little background from Wikipedia;

The Feast of the Black Nazarene commemorates the anniversary of the translation or the transfer of the image from its original location at a church in modern-day Luneta Park to Quiapo. The image was brought to the Church of San Juan Bautista in Bagumbayan (now Luneta) until May 31, 1606, by Augustinian Recollect priests. In 1608, the icon was enshrined at the Recollect church of San Nicolás de Tolentino in Intramuros. It was moved to the Saint John the Baptist Church, which is now commonly referred to as the Quiapo Church, on January 9, 1787. The “solemn transfer” eventually became the date of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

One dead in Mandaluyong City Shoot-out

Video screenshot

From Rappler;

Police fired at a white SUV, a white Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number WNX 737, at around 10:25 pm at Barangay Pleasant Hills. They later recovered a body from the SUV.

Philipppine National Police (PNP) Senior Superintendent Moises Villaceran Jr, the Mandaluyong City police chief told reporters the shootout appeared to have been a case of mistaken identity. A woman was shot in Addition Hills earlier this evening, and the men in the white van brought the woman in their vehicle in an attempt to help.

PNP really messed this up.

Here’s an amateur video from CNN Philippines.

As far as I know, PNP should have at least “inform the suspects that the Police are after them through the use of siren or megaphone and instruct the driver to pull over or stop on the side of the street;”

Unless PNP revised it, you can read all about the Revised PNP Operational Procedures here.

Woman in viral road rage video denies hurting taxi driver

In her position paper, Cherish Sharmaine Interior denied physically hurting taxi driver Virgilio Doctor during a traffic altercation last December 17 along Congressional Avenue in Quezon City.

So rather than asking forgiveness and admitting her fault, she will resort to fighting fire with fire. It will be her word against the driver’s word and their dashcam video against the video the went viral.

Comments on the article is as entertaining as the news. 🙂
