Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start issuing driver’s license with 10-year, whether it’s for new drivers or those renewing their driver’s license. LTO started the started the new 10-year validity yesterday, October 28th.
According to LTO, driver’s who have not committed any traffic violations will be entitled to the 10-years validity, while those with violations will have 5-years validity.
The 10-years validity of driver’s license is included in a provision in Republic Act No. 1093, signed into law in 2017, which states;
Except for the student-driver’s permits, all drivers’ licenses shall be valid for five (5) years reckoned from the birthdate of the licensee, unless sooner revoked or suspended. Provided, however, That subject to Section 26 of Republic Act No. 4136, as amended by Batas Pambansa Blg. 398, any holder of a professional or nonprofessional driver’s license who has not committed any violation of Republic Act No.4 L36 and other traffic laws, rules and regulations shall be entitled to a renewal of such license for ten (10) years.
