Philippine telecommunications providers Globe Telecom (and its subsidiary GOMO) alongside DITO Telecommunity have begun enforcing DNS-level blocks on Discord. The disruptions leave millions of Filipino gamers, esports teams, and remote workers abruptly unable to access the messaging service without using custom DNS or VPN workarounds.
The service restrictions stem from a crackdown by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), which issued a 24-hour directive ordering social platforms to set up local representatives and tighten child-safety mechanisms following recent school violence.

Notably, the block occurred despite initial reports of a granted extension. While the CICC later clarified that an official extension was granted only to Reddit after it made specific local commitments, Discord had engaged with authorities by offering briefings on its safety tools. Nevertheless, telecom providers moved forward with site restrictions pending formal compliance agreements.
The sudden blockade has drawn heavy criticism from tech advocates, legal observers, and industry leaders. Critics point out that blanket network blocks disproportionately penalize legitimate freelancers and community groups while doing little to stop bad actors who easily circumvent basic DNS filters.
