DC releases first trailer of Blue Beetle

DC just the first trailer (below) of Blue Beetle, a super hero powered by mystical Scarab.

The film appears to be pointing to a version of the Blue Beetle where the previous owner Ted Kord, before it chose Jaime Reyes as its new “host,” Susan Sarandon who plays Victoria Kord, was Ted’s sister in the comics and the CEO of Kord Industries.

Blue Beetle is intended to be the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) but since taking over DC Studios last January 2023, Co-CEO James Gunn said the film would be “disconnected” from previous DCEU entries and instead will be part of the new DC universe the Gunn is creating.

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Blue Beetle is directed by Angel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, it stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, Adriana Barraza as Nana, Damián Alcázar as Alberto, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio, Bruna Marquezine as Jenny – Jaime’s love interest. Raoul Max Trujillo as Carapax the Indestructible Man, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, George Lopez as Rudy: Jaime’s uncle.

The film was originally set to be release in February 2021 for the streaming service HBO Max but was later changed to a theatrical release this 18th August 2023.

Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
