Someone just created a film about the first smartphone – BlackBerry, and below is its first trailer. According to the video description, Blackberry film is the “true story of the meteoric rise & catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone.”
BlackBerry was the first “smartphone” to offer internet, email and messenger, with it’s iconic keyboards. At its peak, there were 85 million BlackBerry users worldwide but the company lost its dominance due to the success of the smartphones running Android and the iPhone.
BlackBerry is written by Matt Johnson with screenplay by Matt Johnson and Matthew Miller. The film feature Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton as Mike Lazaridis (Blackberry co-founder) and Jim Balsillie (former Chair and co-CEO), respectively. BlackBerry also stars Johnson, Rich Sommer, Michael Ironside, Martin Donovan, Michelle Giroux, SungWon Cho, Saul Rubinek, and Cary Elwes.
Blackberry film is based on the 2015 book “Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry” written by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 12, 2023.
