Free agent center DeMarcus Cousins has agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, and sources say the team is bringing back PG Rajon Rondo on a two-year deal.
Restricted free-agent center Ivica Zubac has agreed to a four-year, $28 million deal to stay with the LA Clippers, Excel Sports agents Jeff Schwartz and Mike Lindeman told ESPN.
Zubac returns to transformed Clippers roster that will include the arrival of All-NBA stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
The Los Angeles Clippers pulled off two major acquisitions late Friday night, as ESPN and The Athletic reported that free agent forward Kawhi Leonard will sign with the team, which also acquired forward Paul George in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Leonard received a four-year, $142 million maximum contract.
In order to acquire George, the Clippers will send guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and forward Danilo Gallinari to Oklahoma City. The Thunder also will receive four unprotected first-round draft picks, one protected first-round pick and two draft-pick swaps, according to the ESPN report.
The Philippines bowed to Greece 85-69, but the Gilas Youth squad could have lost more after big man AJ Edu apparently injured his knee in the FIBA Under 19 World Cup in the port city of Heraklion on Saturday.
Edu needed to be carried off the floor 2:03 into the game at Heraklion Indoor Sports Arena after what looked like a collision between him and Greece guard Nikolaos Arsenopoulos led to Edu falling to the floor and grimacing in pain.
At the half, Phoenix Pulse coach Louie Alas called the attention of his player to play defense.
The Fuel Masters did more than that at the resumption of play, playing defense and exploding for 45 points in the third quarter en route to a 111-103 drubbing of the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday night.
Richard Howell and his teammates responded big time even when Alas was already out of the game, ejected on technical infractions midway through the fourth.
ATHENS, Greece -- Giannis Antetokounmpo will play for Greece at this year's basketball World Cup in China, saying he can play any position.
The Milwaukee Bucks player and NBA MVP on Friday said he hasn't "talked to the coach about which position I'll be playing ... the important thing is to play."
As free-agent guard Isaiah Thomas probes the marketplace, this summer affords him something that the past two did not: an unobstructed work regimen to restore strength and explosion to his lower body, and the chance to be back in the gymnasium every day, sharpening his game.
Thomas is hopeful his season with the Denver Nuggets and a full summer of work will become a pathway back into an NBA rotation, a full-time resumption of a career sidetracked by hip surgery.
The Golden State Warriors are planning to offer All-Star guard Klay Thompson a five-year, $190 million maximum contract when free agency opens Sunday at 6 p.m. ET -- which is expected to accelerate the process of general manager Bob Myers and Thompson's agent, Greg Lawrence, quickly reaching a formal agreement, league sources tell ESPN.
