International Olympic Committee announces new Policy on the Protection of the Female (Women’s) Category in Olympic Sport
IOC;
The policy explains that, for all disciplines on the sports programme of an IOC event, including the Olympic Games and for both individual and team sports, eligibility for any female category is limited to biological females.
Eligibility for the female category is to be determined in the first instance by SRY gene screening to detect the absence or presence of the SRY gene.
Based on scientific evidence, the IOC considers that the presence of the SRY gene is fixed throughout life and represents highly accurate evidence that an athlete has experienced male sex development. Furthermore, the IOC considers that SRY gene screening via saliva, cheek swab or blood sample is unintrusive compared to other possible methods.
In short, if you are not a “biological female” you will not be able to compete in any female events or sports. IOC noted that this new policy is not retroactive and applies only to elite IOC events.
Another thing to take note is that this “Policy on the Protection of the Female (Women’s) Category” is set to take effect starting with the LA28 Olympic Games.

The NBA’s board of governors has approved a vote for the league to explore bids and applicants for expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle.
All 30 owners voted in favor of exploring Las Vegas and Seattle expansion, sources told ESPN. A bidding process is expected to generate offers in the $7-10 billion range for each team, according to sources.

President Marcos has signed the law giving him emergency powers to suspend or reduce excise tax on petroleum products.
Marcos signed Republic Act (RA) No. 12316 on Wednesday, March 25, fulfilling what he said earlier in the day that he would be signing the measure into law within the day.
Under the law, the President may suspend the imposition of or reduce the excise taxes on fuel when the average Dubai crude oil price based on Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) reaches or exceeds $80 per barrel for one month immediately preceding the issuance of the suspension or reduction order.

Suspending/reducing excise taxes cushions price hikes by providing immediate relief at the pump. By removing fixed taxes—specifically ₱10/liter for gasoline and ₱6/liter for diesel—the retail price drops instantly. This also triggers a “tax-on-tax” reduction, as the 12% VAT is no longer applied to the excised portion.
Beyond the pump, it helps curb inflation. By lowering transport and logistics costs, it prevents a domino effect on food prices and public transport fares. While this saves consumers money, it results in massive revenue losses (est. ₱136B), potentially forcing the government to reduce infrastructure spending or increase debt.

In a Facebook post, the DOTr said there are 137,218 traditional jeepneys registered in the country, and their operators will receive PHP5,000 per unit, while their drivers will each receive PHP1,500.
There are 9,183 modern jeepneys in the country whose operators will receive PHP10,000 per unit, while drivers will each receive PHP1,500.
For public utility buses (PUB) —including point-to-point (P2P) buses— operators will receive PHP10,000 for each unit while their drivers will each get PHP5,000.
On the other hand, minibus operators will receive PHP9,000 per unit, and their drivers will each get PHP5,000.
There is a total of 21,086 PUBs registered in the country, with the same number of drivers; 1,138 minibuses with the same number of drivers; and 824 P2P buses with the same number of drivers.
Meanwhile, there are 4,351 school transport drivers registered throughout the country who will each receive PHP5,000.
For the 46,202 taxis in the country, operators will each get PHP2,000, while the same number of drivers will receive PHP5,000.
For Filcab or Multicab transport, their operators will receive PHP5,000 for each of the 7,659 units registered in the country, while the same number of drivers will get PHP1,500.
For transport network vehicle service (TNVS), operators of each of the 54,745 units registered will receive PHP1,500.
Meanwhile, operators of the 1,348 modern UV Express units in the country will receive PHP10,000 per unit, while each driver will get PHP5,000.
For traditional UV Express, their operators will receive PHP5,000 for each of the 16,057 units in the country, while drivers will each get PHP5,000.
These subsidies will be distributed to operators through fuel subsidy cards, manager’s checks, bank transfers, or e-wallet transfers.
On the other hand, drivers will receive their subsidies through cash or e-wallet transfers.
While fuel subsidy distribution for tricycle drivers in the National Capital Region (NCR) began last week, a total of 723,000 tricycle operators and drivers will get their PHP5,000 subsidy after the Holy Week.
A total of 157,972 registered delivery drivers will also receive fuel subsidies after the Holy Week.

Marvel just announced that Wonderman will have a second season. The announcement was made in the official social media channels of Marvel as well as Disney Plus’. What is Down Syndrome?
Down syndrome is a naturally occurring genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. While most people are born with 23 pairs of chromosomes for a total of 46, individuals with Down syndrome have 47. Because chromosomes act as the body’s “instruction manual,” this additional genetic material alters the typical course of physical and mental development.
This condition affects approximately 1 in every 800 babies and occurs naturally with no known cause. It is not a disease to be cured, but rather a fundamental part of a person’s identity. Although it often leads to varying levels of intellectual disability and certain common health conditions, these challenges do not prevent individuals from leading successful lives. With the right support and resources, people with Down syndrome attend school, hold jobs, and contribute vibrantly to their communities.

Filipino tennis star Alexandra Eala advanced to the third round of the 2026 Miami Open after coming from a set down to defeat Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-3 — the longest match of her career. A drone was intercepted and destroyed as it approached the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, the ministry said at around midday.
Earlier, a ballistic missile launched toward Al-Kharj Governorate was shot down with debris from the interception falling near Prince Sultan Air Base “without causing any damage,” a spokesman said.
Another two ballistic missiles launched towards the Eastern Province were intercepted and destroyed in the evening.

The win over the “pesky” Spaniards in their final qualifying match, the Americans finished the tournament with a flawless 5–0 record, proving they remain the gold standard of women’s international basketball.
From the opening tip, Spain’s signature defensive pressure disrupted the U.S. rhythm, leading to eight lead changes and 3 times that both team tied. Spain was led by the interior duo of Megan Gustafson and Raquel Carrera, who each dropped 15 points to keep the contest within striking distance. However, the depth of the U.S. roster eventually wore down the Spanish frontline, building a 12 point lead by the end of the first half and a 14-point margin at the start of the 4th qtr.
