Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) cancelled the registration of online news organization Rappler for allegedly violating the Foreign Equity Restriction of the Philippine Constitution.
According to Foreign Equity Restriction of the Philippine Constitution, “(t)he ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.”
SEC cites the funding that it received from Omidyar Network and from Marcus Brauchli’s North Base Media.
You can read SEC’s full decision here.
Since the cancellation of Rappler Incorporated’s license is not yet ‘final and executory’ online news organization will continue to operate.
Good morning from Manila! Thank you for your overwhelming support from the Philippines and around the world. @rapplerdotcom continues to operate because the decision isn't final. While we weren't surprised, it was still shocking. We will hold the line. https://t.co/OzULYu3VCz

US President Donald Trump publishes a threatening tweets to North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un regarding the United States’ nuclear weapons.
North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 3, 2018
The tweet is in response to Kim Jong Un New Year’s statement saying that he wish “for peaceful resolution with our southern border.”
Then issuing a warning to the United States regarding their nuclear ambitions, “The entire mainland of the US is within the range of our nuclear weapons and the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office. They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality.”
You can watch the entirety North Korea Leader Kim Jong Un New Year’s Statement below.
It’s a welcoming development between North and South Korea but a concerning one with the United States and North Korea.

From Rappler;
Police fired at a white SUV, a white Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number WNX 737, at around 10:25 pm at Barangay Pleasant Hills. They later recovered a body from the SUV.
Philipppine National Police (PNP) Senior Superintendent Moises Villaceran Jr, the Mandaluyong City police chief told reporters the shootout appeared to have been a case of mistaken identity. A woman was shot in Addition Hills earlier this evening, and the men in the white van brought the woman in their vehicle in an attempt to help.
PNP really messed this up.
Here’s an amateur video from CNN Philippines.
As far as I know, PNP should have at least “inform the suspects that the Police are after them through the use of siren or megaphone and instruct the driver to pull over or stop on the side of the street;”
Unless PNP revised it, you can read all about the Revised PNP Operational Procedures here.
You may want to avoid these road/streets on the 23rd of December, 2:00 PM on wards. But if you’re there for star gazing, then you this is where you find the brightest star in the Philippine Entertainment business, since its not called Parade of Stars for nothing.
Parade of Stars will be on December 23, 2017 , 2:00pm and will take place at Muntinlupa City.
The parade will start at Muntinlupa Sports Center, Tunasan and will end at Filinvest City Event Grounds, Alabang.

Photographer Paul Nicklen;
It’s a soul-crushing scene that still haunts me, but I know we need to share both the beautiful and the heartbreaking if we are going to break down the walls of apathy. This is what starvation looks like. The muscles atrophy. No energy. It’s a slow, painful death. When scientists say polar bears will be extinct in the next 100 years, I think of the global population of 25,000 bears dying in this manner. There is no band aid solution. There was no saving this individual bear. People think that we can put platforms in the ocean or we can feed the odd starving bear. The simple truth is this—if the Earth continues to warm, we will lose bears and entire polar ecosystems. This large male bear was not old, and he certainly died within hours or days of this moment. But there are solutions. We must reduce our carbon footprint, eat the right food, stop cutting down our forests, and begin putting the Earth—our home—first.
This is just sad!
Writing about animals is not really my cup of tea but I feel that readers of the site needs to watch this video by NatGeo photographer Paul Nicklen. It’s a video of a starving Polar Bear and according “scientists say polar bears will be extinct in the next 100 years, I think of the global population of 25,000 bears dying in this manner.”
