Veteran Newscaster Noli De Castro withdraws Senate Candidacy

Seven days after filing his COC for senator, Veteran news anchor and former vice president Noli de Castro is withdrawing his candidacy for senator, this was confirmed by Aksyon Demokratiko chairman Ernest Ramel.

It’s unclear why ‘Kabayan’ Noli de Castro pulled out of the senate race but De Castro said “serve Filipinos better by continuing to work in the news industry, rather than in politics.”

You can read his full statement at ABS-CBN News website – READ: Kabayan Noli De Castro statement on withdrawal of candidacy

Here’s the statement of ABS-CBN News;

Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa files COC to run for President

In another plot twist, a long time Duterte ally Bato Dela Rosa has filed his COC to be the standard bearer of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban faction.

While filing his COC, it’s noticeable that Sen. Bato Dela Rosa is wearing a Hugpong ng Pagbabago party shirt instead of the PDP-Laban faction. ‘Hugpong ng Pagbabago’ is the regional party of Davao City mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Before taking a seat as a Senator om 2019, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa is a long time PNP officer and served as the chief of the Davao City Police Office from 2010 to 2016, before being handpicked by then President-Elect President Rodrigo Duterte as the new PNP Chief on May 19, 2016.

Sen. Bong Go, who is also a long time Duterte associate, will be Sen. Dela Rosa’s running, while filed his COC earlier this week.

It’s unclear if Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa will be the ‘real’ Presidential candidate of the Cusi-side of PDP-Laban or will later be substituted by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte by November 15. I guess, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Leni Robredo formally announce her candidacy for the coming 2022 National Election

In a press conference, Philippines’ Vice President Leni Robredo formally announce her candidacy to run for the highest position in the country.

Her announcement came a week after 1Sambayan officially nominates her for the position of President for the 2022 Election. It is reported the Leni Robredo’s running mate for the Vice President position will be Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

“Buong-buo ang loob ko ngayon: Kailangan nating palayain ang sarili mula sa kasalukuyang situwasyon. Lalaban ako; lalaban tayo. Inihahain ko ang aking sarili bilang kandidato sa pagkapangulo sa halalan ng 2022.”

VP Leni Robredo was the wife of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo. Her political career started when she served as the representative of Camarines Sur’s 3rd district in 2013 then won the Vicpresident in 2016. She defeated the son of late Dictator, Bongbong Marcos Jr. by a narrow margin, which was later contested and dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Bongbong Marcos to run for President in the 2022 National Elections

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr. has officially announced that he will be running for President in the 2022 national elections. He is the second child and only son of former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos and former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos.

He previously ran for Vice President in the 2016 National Elections but lost to the eventual winner VP Leni Robredo. He disputed the election results before the Supreme Court but the High Tribunal dismissed his election protest. It is unclear who will be Bongbong Marcos running mate for the VP position.

If VP Leni Robredo decides to run for President, we may see a rematch of the 2016 Election with a number strong candidates namely Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Isko Moreno and Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

Sen. Bong Go files candidacy for Vice President

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go officially files his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Vice President. He was accompanied by Pres. Duterte, Saturday, October 2nd.

In a statement, Go said he will run for vice president after Duterte announced his “retirement” from politic, withdrawing his acceptance of the PDP-Laban nomination for the same post.

“Given that President Rodrigo Duterte decided to withdraw his acceptance of nomination, I am here to take on the challenge as PDP-Laban’s Vice Presidential candidate,” Go said in a statement.

Sen. Bong Go was originally nominated for the position of President by the Cusi-side of the now divided PDP-Laban. With the latest development, it’s unclear who will be the new candidate for the position of President and if the replacement will even have a chance of running against Isko Moreno and Ping Lacson, who already announced their intension to run for the highest office in the country.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte retires from Politics

In a surprising twist, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he will be retiring from politics. His announcement was made while accompanying longtime aide Senator Bong Go in filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice president.

His retirement means that he will no longer continue with his plans to run of the Vice President, as previously announced.

This is not the first time that Duterte announce his retirement from politics, if you can recall, in 2015, then Davao City Mayor Duterte said that he “will retire from public life for good. I believe it’s no longer my time to be in politics.”

Sen. Bong Go and President Duterte was nominated by Cusi-led faction of PDP-Laban, for President and Vice President, respectively but now that Bong Go filed for the position of Vice President and Pres. Duterte looming retirement, it’s unclear whole will the standard bearer of PDP-Laban to run for President, since Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte already filed her candidacy for a reelection for Mayor of Davao City.

Of course, we cannot discount the fact that Rodrigo Duterte can still change his mind and later run for the the VP position, since as reported by One New, this was an old strategy that Duterte already used. I guess we’ll know by Nov. 15th.

1Sambayan’s response to Duterte’s VP bid for 2022 election

1Sambayan, the opposition coalition that’s compose of former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, SC Justice Antonio Carpio and former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert Del Rosario, to name a few, just release their statement regarding the acceptance of Pres. Duterte for his Vice President nomination by PDP-Laban party.

Here the gist of their statement;

It shows a clear mockery of our Constitution and democratic process. Obviously, this is driven by fear of accountability both from ICC and from our own justice system. The candidacy is both legally and morally wrong, and we trust that the Filipino people will realize his brazen, selfish and self-serving motives.

Sadly, today’s declaration comes at the heels of numerous allegations of corruption and continuing EJK, even as we mourn the death of 30,000 Filipinos due to the a failed COVID-19 response.

The coalition’s statement in both Filipino and in English, to make sure that everyone will be able to read it. I embedded their original post below.
